Poul M Volther
Poul M. Volther (1923-2001)
Poul M. Volther was born 1923 and started his career as a cabinet-maker, before graduating from the School of Arts and Crafts. In Volther’s design style the sculpting organic approach can be seen. As a typical functionalist, Volther was against aesthetic smartness as opposed to true manufacturing and fine materials.
The Corona Chair is the most famous design by Volther. The frame of the chair was originally produced in solid oak, but soon after it was changed to how it is today, using sprung steel and with concentric shapes that appear to be freely suspended.
